Zakat

ZAKAT IS A COMPULSORY religious duty conferred by Allah (swt) upon all adult Muslims whose wealth exceeds the prescribed limit to look after their less fortunate brothers and sisters.

The Prophet (saw) said:

Allah has obligated them to pay charity from their wealth (i.e. Zakat), to be taken from the rich among them and then distributed to their poor.

Zakat is the third of the five basic pillars of Islam, Zakat is primarily an act of worship. The Arabic word ‘Zakah’ literally means purification, growth, blessing and appreciation.
